Graduating from college can be a very exciting time. You are finally fulfilling the dream of starting the career opportunity for which you have been working so hard all those years.

However, reality may set in quickly if you cannot find the job option you are looking for or are not offered the salary you were expecting.

Most graduates have little – if any – experience actually working in their chosen profession, so that lack can make landing a related position even more difficult.

Consider Entry Level for a Start

You may need to start from the bottom at an entry level job while gradually working your way up the ladder. This can be a difficult emotional adjustment, but it may be the only means of initially getting your foot in the door of your preferred employers.

The challenges in that scenario are that you may not be paid what you think your skills and effort are worth, and there may well be a lot of competition for the very position you seek.

Salary Negotiation Limitations

As a recent graduate, unfortunately there is not a lot of room for negotiation of salary. This is because you do not bring a wealth of experience into the position, and you are still young.

You normally cannot negotiate effectively something for work you have never truly done before, while applicants with experience will be much better positioned to negotiate based on previous positions.

However, you still have the ability to figure out what you are worth. Depending on the type of degree you graduated with, you may be able to successfully request a higher salary based on your education alone.

Those with Advanced Degrees

Many graduates with Master Degrees or PhD’s are able to do just that based simply on the fact that they went further in school.

It is important that you not sell yourself short. You do not necessarily need to work for a small wage if you believe you are worth more. But you first need to research salary averages for your field of employment and general locale.

Don’t Respond out of Deperation

Many companies try to “lowball” prospective employees. However, armed with knowledge of average salaries in your specialty, you are better equipped to strike a bargain for your market value.

You do not need to feel compelled to take the first offer that is given to you, either. Salary for the most part is open to negotiation – within reason.

Again, since you do not have experience, you will likely be limited in your ability to negotiate a much higher salary, but even a small about above an initial offer is helpful.

Wait for the Job Offer

The most important rule of thumb about salary negotiation is that you avoid discussing salary until a formal offer has been extended for employment.

Doing so will first afford you the opportunity to understand the core and peripheral responsibilities of the position. That knowledge may help you during salary discussions.

Lastly, salary is not your only financial consideration. You need to weigh company benefits such as health insurance, dental insurance, and 401K plans as well.

Taking the entire package into account will help you better analyze whether you are being offered a good deal to start your new career.

Even though job interviews have been existentfor over a hundred years, it still astounds me how only a few get to be really prepared for the occasion. The oldest mistakes are still present and confidence is still a thing that needs to be improved drastically. I devised a few meanson how to really amaze and impress your interviewer or panel. These have worked for me for several different job interviews I was in until now when I myself am the one doing the interview.

Knowing the Company

I make it a point to study many times before the interview. I searchfor the company web site online then read and review their mission, vision and background. It is also one way of determining how your own objectives and goals coincide with the group you intend to join. You have to find out the exact persons who will be interviewing you.

In most cases today, several interviewers are well-known individuals in the company or are in top positions who have already appeared in seminars, forums and summits. Find out the college they went to or even the kindof laptop briefcases they possess. You might be surprised about the variety of questions these experts can throw at you.

Getting Ready

Make it a point to appear sharp and ready. Prepare your clothes several nights before and wear only safe colors that provide a good impression but not too much to shock the panel. A suit and tie will sufficefor the men while a briefcase for women will be enough to appear professional. If you are traveling to a different city for the interview, you may want to avail of a rolling briefcase for added convenience and ease of use.

I always prepare answers for the most likely questions like “Why do you want this job?”, “Tell me about yourself” and “What qualities do you have that will be useful for this company?” Having the answers beforehand always helped me breeze through interviews. Give a short pause before giving out your answers though, as if you have to think about them for a quick while. It is also possiblethat someone will ask you very farfetched questions like “How do they put peanut butter in chocolates?” These are only made to test how you react in critical situations. Stay cool and relax then give out the best answer that you can.
Know What You Want

If you are truly interested in the job, you should give the impression that you at least have adequate knowledge about the topics and questions. Read more books about the position you are applying for and talk to other people who have experienced being in the position. Also prepare your expectations and a coupleof questions to show concern and interest about the company and your possible future job.

Always be ready to say the salary range you want, work hours and other features that you want to be included in your job. It will be much easier to deal and negotiate if you are specific about the details. A lotof your bosses will also appreciate the idea that you are straightforward and direct in your objectives. Maintain a friendly, humble and confident attitude and you will surely land the job.

The first day of work at the office almost reminds you of how you felt when you’re the freshstudent in a big campus and it’s the first day of school. It seems as if everybody is looking once you turn your back and they just can’t wait to get you fired. I had my moments in the past, but realized that in most occasions, I was only generatingmy own ghosts. My performance and enthusiasm quickly increased as I followed these quick and easy tips.

First Things First

You need to understand that impression is very important at work. However, you do not want to make such a huge scene since it can usually leave your colleagues feeling intimidated by you. Your career could go into a plungeif you act like everyone else’s competition. Start by preparing the items you need for work. I rummaged through a lot of my laptop briefcases to find the most common-looking and functional model. Try not to grab so much attention by wearing very flashyattire. It is good to look sharp, but not arrogant.

Prepare how you are going to carry yourself from the time you leave your house to the moment you step in the room. Expect a lot of heads to turn regardless of what you are wearing. Look at yourself in the mirror then practice walking, standing and smiling. Just try to act as casual and collectedas possible. I was lucky enough to receive a briefcase for women which can hide my knees when they’re hitting on each other because of my nervousness.

Entering the Office

I always think of the word “polite” and “humble” when I enterthe office. Remember, you are entering their territory and should make a good first impression. Give out the feeling that you are there to support and help the people around you. Greet every person you encounter and always put on a smile. Make eye contact and introduce yourself as needed. Be the first one to extend your hand for a shake. Slowly walk to your area and arrange your things. Foreverbe aware of your surroundings and observe how you should act depending on other people’s responses.

Building Relationships

Always stay confident but be attentiveabout the existing relationships in the office. Style is a must but I always strike the balance by working hard and looking good while at it. I wouldn’t mind bringing a rolling briefcase to work after getting back from a trip or project. I find that it is a must to throw as many compliments as possible to your colleaguesto develop relationships.

Even though you may be accustomed to a few habits from your former employment, you have to adjust to the company’s way of doing things. Followrules at all times and ask questions. Many people actually admire new employees who ask questions rather than seem like you know everything already. Create relationships both during work hours and breaks. Always give attention to your boss without overexerting. Your boss can be an excellent wayof helping you build healthy relationships in your new job.

The truth is, the ability to learn German fast is very real simply because of the nature of the Deutsch language structure. German is described as a very orderly language uncomplicated by other languages and in a good learning environment, learning it quickly is possible.

Learning environments are extremely important in learning any foreign language and German is no different. Today, the online world has opened up many new doors and teaching languages is one of them. Old school learning areas which required one to attend a live course in a classroom situation often presented many students problems.

Many are intimidated by a classroom situation or circumstances may have made it difficult to attend all classes. This is not the case with the internet language courses and both the intimidation and attendance risks are all but eliminated.

Learn German Quickly

Fun is a big aspect of successfully completing a language learning course. This includes those undertaking a German learning course because enjoying the learning material when it’s delivered in such a way that the student is put completely at ease makes a huge difference to their overall ability to complete the course.

This method of learning is considered more fast and effective as compared to learning in class, since it takes you at your desired pace so that you not only learn fast but also learn it right and master it. In addition, this method is considered cheaper since most other methods of learning German fast are considerably expensive. Usually, these programs are in audio form and are readily available.

Perhaps one may wonder why anyone would want to learn quickly. Firstly, it’s more fun than having to learn 10 words a day. Learning languages fast makes it more interesting than it would otherwise be. Besides being fun, experts state that learning German fast and indeed any other language contributes greatly in better memory retention, as compared to when one learns the language slowly.

For those that travel to other countries frequently some concept of German is desirable given it’s the major economy in Europe. If one is given short notice within which he or she is required to travel to Germany or any German speaking country, learning in quick time will be the only way out.

The Rocket German Course is yet another effective way of learning fast. This is a software that is available online through which one can use to speed up their learning process. On average, it is possible for anyone determined to master the language to complete all training within eight weeks

Learning German as a second language, especially for non natives, can be difficult and boring. It is for this reason that it has become necessary to come up with ways through which one can study and pick it up fast and learn it well.

Many adults with incomplete college education will get to a stage in their lives where the urge to complete a degree becomes persistent. For what ever reasons, many adults are unable to either get a college degree or start but have to opt out for personal reasons.

The good news is an accelerated college degree online is the ideal vehicle to improve your current educational qualifications and the benefits that come with it. Benefits such as increased job opportunity or advancement within your current employ means completing a higher form of education is well worth it.

There are some pitfalls though and mainly revolve around getting into an accredited course and not falling prey to those promising legitimate degrees but really only interested in your money. In this article, we’ll take a closer look at what’s involved in furthering your education online and what you need to know.

Up Front Payment Programs

These programs basically have no graduation requirements except that you give them money. They offer any degree in any discipline based on life experience. For an additional fee, they will backdate your degree and provide you with a transcript of classes with grades and verify your “education” to your employer. Most people consider getting an accelerated college degree online through one of these programs to be unethical, and it’s illegal to use it to get a job in some states.

Picking Up Where You Left Off

Most schools require that you take a minimum number of courses at their school to graduate there. There are a few who do not. They offer accelerated degree online without requiring that a certain number of credits be earned at their school. You can transfer previous college credits, and gain credits through challenging exams, life experience assessments, military service, job training and continuing education.

In addition, you can gain credits by demonstrating college-level competence in many areas. Using these methods, you can complete the final requirements for a college degree in as little as a few months. These schools are not considered to be degree mills, but they are suspect and should be evaluated very carefully before you give them money.

Adult Learner Classes

Many colleges and universities offer adult learners accelerated online college degrees. You can usually get credit for about two years of college. You can transfer any previously earned college credits, take challenging exams, get credit for military service, job training and continuing education and get some credit for life experience. This cuts the cost and time to get your degree in half.

Saturdays have become somewhatnon-existent for me when I realized that I was pretty much doing the same things over and over. I worked as a nurse at the hospital, with most of my shifts scheduled from 11 pm to 7 in the morning. Worseorse, Tuesday was my only day off so most of my friends and family would still be stuck in the middle of their work, leaving me a book to read and a can of ice cold beer to unwind and let go of a week’s worth of stress.

I tried my best not to think about my friends come Saturday night. I did not want to imagine the leather wine carrier my best friend Carl always brought when there were pre-night-out dinners. I’d be rushingfrom one corridor to the top floor of the 11-storey building all night while everyone else was painting the town red. For the entire 8 hours I followed doctors, wrote down hospital notes and did everything from applyingbandages to saving lives.

The Morning After

When I’d return to my locker to pack up at around 7:15 on Sunday morning, my cellular phone would be full of text messages and missed calls from virtually every person I know. My brother mentioned how he got engravable cufflinks to spice up his attire. Michelle was ecstatic about the concert they went to and how she got free engraved zippo lighters, courtesyof the hot vocalist. My friends, I can say, are quite popularwhen it comes to partying so they never really have any problems getting freebies, VIP passes and other discounts.

Overall, I do not regret not being able to party much these days. I have a stable job and a good salary which afforded me engravable cufflinks as well. I just don’t know when or where I’m going to get to wear them. Scrubs and slip-ons have been my attire for 3 months now. Although I no longer get to go throughthe rush after having a couple of drinks, I do get ecstaticevery time I see other health professionals rushing towards a patient or area. Hospital life is actually not that boring, even if you’re working only at night.

Doing Better Things

It’s actually good that I’ve finally found comfortin what I do. I might miss the usual Saturday get-togethers but I find that doing good in my job and making up for the lost time during the day is still very achievable, regardless of your shift. I made it a point to eat healthy, exercise and get enough sleep. Adjusting my body clock was pretty easy. When I’d get home at 8 am, I’d take a quick bath then hit the bed. I’d be up by around 3 or 4pm then would get my late “breakfast”. I’d either selectto watch some TV, do some house chores or buy some stuff at the mall or nearby grocery store.

I’d be done by around 8 so I’d hit a 90-minute workout before finally going back to my work routine. It isn’t all that bad if you come to think of it. I guess routines can be the most amazing things if you derive some meaning in what you do and continuouslyset objectives to keep you on your toes.

Not everyone wants to spend four years in college or university. Some people either by choice or necessity need to finish their college degree as fast as possible and start working to bring in money. That obviously is not the case for all people of course and nor should it be. Those who can afford it and desire to enjoy their college’s years should by all means do so if they choose.

But for those who are watching every penny or who are paying for your own education the sooner you graduate the sooner you can start earning money with a new job. How do you go about graduating from college quicker? One option is to complete CLEP exams accepted by colleges as credit. CLEP stands for College-Level Examination Program® and gives people an opportunity to receive college credit from material already understood or known by the person if they successfully complete one of several different exams.

This means you can test out some classes quicker by passing the exam. The more of these you do, the less classes you have to pay for (save you money) and the quicker you can graduate (do not need to spend a semester in each class).

Now each university is different and may or may not accept CLEP tests as credit for a college course. Therefore you should check to makesure first of all if your college accepts CLEP and then see which classes you may be able to test out of and not need to complete.

Here are some examples of CLEP Test areas:

  • American Literature
  • Biology
  • Freshman Composition
  • Educational Psychology
  • College Algebra
  • Western Civilization II
  • Information Systems and Computer Applications

It may be assumed that someone who is going to take a CLEP test already has a good or decent understanding of the material the test will cover. That does not mean however that person should sit for the test without preparing. It would be very wise to prepare. For preparation it would also be smart to buy some decent CLEP study guides to help you in getting ready to sit for the test.

Therefore keep in mind while doing a college major search that when you speak with a counselor to ask about using CLEP to test out of some courses. If it is possible then you may want to take advantage of it. This could knock off several courses for you.
