It appears like the year 2008 is going to end badly with respect to the economy and jobs. Following the news it almost sounds like there are no jobs out there, but there are if you know where to look. One such place is in health care where shortages are common. This may be due to not enough people having the proper education to qualify for a position and also due to people retiring who currently work in the field.

There are different ways to become an RN. A shorter way to become an RN is to complete either a nursing diploma program or an associate’s degree in nursing program. Both of these choices can allow someone to become an RN. Another option is to pursue a four year bachelor’s in nursing degree. Which one you choose will likely depend on your time frame and career goals.

If you need to start working sooner rather then later then the shorter diploma or associate degree option may be best. If you only have a goal to be a nurse and not go into management then this option may be a great choice. If you later decide to get a bachelors degree you can find many transition programs. A common one is an RN to BSN Online degree many nurses are completing.

If you have the time and know for sure you want more career opportunities then earning your BSN (four year) degree from the start may be a great idea for you. This will give you an opportunity to go into management and other career opportunities those with a lesser degree may not have.

Whatever choice you decide a key thing to do now is to compare all your options. This includes nursing schools and type of programs. Once that is done you can start applying for different schools.

Remember that all the schools will have different requirements to be accepted into their programs. In many cases you to get accepted into a nursing school you will need to take and do well on the nursing entrance test (NET) or other test. To prepare for a test one would be wise to good nursing study guides to help them do well. So to start the new year of 2009 off to a great start, you would be wise to take the time now to gather some information to help you make a good career decision.

There are thousands of folks around the United States who chose at some point in their lives to become either an LPN or an LVN (licensed vocational nurse). The two are very similar and which one a person is may depend on where they live. Many of them probably thought maybe they should go to school to become an RN (registered nurse) but for one reason or another they choose to become and LPN/LVN. That is all fine and good, but now they are thinking there career options. Should they complete one of those lpn to rn nursing programs some of their co-workers are talking about? Would it be worth it?

That is a good question and what only each person can answer themselves. Everyone is different and has different plans in live. Whether it is career related or more personal, each person has to decide for themselves what is most important to them.

If you are currently working as an LPN/LVN and want more money or more responsibility then maybe you should really consider it if you plan to stay in nursing. If you do not plan to stay in nursing then obviously you should decide on something else. But if you do there are several questions to need to consider.

First off will it benefit you relatively quickly? Will you be able to get a new job where you are currently working? Will your current employer pay for you to go to school? If not how will you pay for it? Is financial aid available and do you qualify? These are all excellent question you need to thinking about, writing down and researching to help you decide.

Another great question to consider is do you want to go to a more traditional campus based college or university? Or would an lpn to rn online option be a better choice for you at this point in your life? This brings up some more questions, such as why online? One big reason is flexibility to work at your own pace which can be very important if you work fulltime and/or have a family to take care of. One thing you do want to do is act now as far as gathering information goes. Do not wait as time moves quickly. You do not need to make a decision now, but you can begin to gather the information now so you are prepared when the time comes.

With the New Year comes the time to ponder one’s career choice. Are you happy in your current job or career? If not you do have time to do something about it, even if you have been working for decades. Why not change careers and enjoy doing something you like for the remainder of your working life instead of staying put in something you do not enjoy. People are returning to college and trade schools in record numbers with many of them being older then the traditional college student.

In today’s society it does not matter if you are old or young, anyone can return to school to complete their education or start on a new career path. With the aging population many people have decided to enter the medical or health care field. While not everyone wants to spend 6 or more years in college to become a high paid nurse or doctor, there are many options for much less educational requirements to learn the skills needed for a professional and decent paying allied health care related job.

Remember a person is never too old to return back to school. Sometimes you even see on the news about how people who are 80+ return to college to earn that degree they always wanted. That is really exciting and motivational which should help inspire those who think they are too old to go after their career dreams. And with the health care industry in need of workers now is a great time to explore your options.

One of the more common ones is that of a medical assistant. There are many medical assisting schools located across the county that offer programs ranging from several month, but under a year, to those lasting longer then one year. Depending on your goals and circumstances one of those programs may be calling your name if you have an interest in healthcare.

I had a very exhausting day. I needed to get quite a lot of things completed after being outside the workplace for a day. Yesterday, I was sent to a Fire Safety Awareness Training by our company, together with four other people from the various divisions. Each group designated one individual to be present at the said training. I was the person chosen to represent the administration unit.

The company decided that we needed this awareness training, in connection with the incident that happened in our office pantry two weeks ago. We had a little fire inside the office pantry and they suspect it was the coffee maker that triggered the fire. It was a relief that the damage to the office was only minor, but this prompted our bosses to have an emergency meeting and come up with a plan to prevent such type of incidents from happening in the future and to educate all the departments on the things that they should do the next time a fire emergency happens – seems like we were all going to get some health and safety training. In my opinion, not a moment too soon – this is crucial for any business.

As the representative chosen for our section, I will in turn communicate to my co-workers all the things that was done} to us during the fire safety awareness training two days from today. So I am as well preparing sort of a little presentation to utilize during that day. Tough task for me but somebody has to do it and sad to say it was me.

On the positive side, it also is a confidence booster on me that my supervisor has faith in me on this. For me that only means he has faith in the abilities that I possess to assign it to me. I just hope I still have plenty of energy to carry on the rest days of the week.

If you are in a situation where you need to get trained for a new career that can pay you some decent money and let you get started relatively quickly you may be wondering what your best options are. Although 2008 is turning out to be a bad year economically and a lot of people have lost or may lose their jobs, there is still much demand in the health care fields. One such area is in medical assisting due to the significant number of people getting older and needing more medical care. As a result medical assistant schools are likely to see an increase in student applications as more and more people realize that health care is where the future jobs are at.

If you are sitting on the fence and know you need to start looking for a new career do not rule out those health care related jobs. Some you can complete training in just months while others may take a year or longer. Depending on your career goals chances are you can find someething and begin training in the near year.

An interview is a discourse between you and your prospective employer to find whether you can execute the post. Yet, there are definite principles and conventions to comply with in interviews. Here’s a checklist of the principal do’s and don’ts.

Things to do:

dress smart, look sparkly and observant, and speak intelligibly and confidently. do not forget that merely 7% of the interviewer\’s views of you is formed through what you say – the rest is judged by how you look, act and sound

turn off your phone! Treat the interviewers with respect and give them your undivided attention

prepare replies for the principal questions – e.g., why do you want this placement, what are your strengths and weaknesses, what are the principal jobs in this post

ascertain what kind of interview it will be so you can organise yourself

have your outfit ready the night before

make about three or four points for each response

take your time when replying to the queries. Ensure you comprehend the question and take your time if you want to think

sell yourself. No-one else is going to! Be confident about yourself and your experiences

ascertain where the location is at least the day before, directions to get there and how long it takes

What not to do:
1. don’t be late!
2. do not swear or use slang words
3. don’t slouch in your seat or do anything else that makes you look bored
4. do not smoke
5. don’t lie! The interview panel may see through you. Even if you get the post, your boss can dismiss you if they find
6. don’t let your nerves show too much. A few nerves are normal but intense nerves will adversely affect your performance. Use breathing techniques and try to reflect on the fact that it’s not a life and death position – there are plenty of jobs out there!
7. do not be bigheaded and assume you’ve got the placement. Nothing turns off employers more than someone who is irreverent and over-confident
8. do not discuss contentious themes such as religion, party politics and gender relations
9. do not read from your notes or your Curriculum Vitae. You should be familiar enough with your own history to be able to speak about it unprompted
10. do not criticize past employers or colleagues. Interviewers may mark you down as a troublemaker and a gossip
11. do not argue with the interviewer, no matter what. Aim to keep things positive!

These principles apply for most jobs. But, employers in some industries can use more relaxed and friendly interviewing techniques. In some creative fields (design and media for example) it may be expected that you turn up for the interview in casual clothes, as that is the dress code in the office. If you’re in any doubt, do some research on typical interview technique in your line of work.

Above all, preparation is the key to performing well in interviews. Research the placement and organization, and prepare evidence and examples of your skills and competencies.

When going for your medical interview, be prepared to reveal to the interview panel that you will function as a safe doctor and take responsibility for the care of your patient, within the limits of your competence.

The interview is essentially a conversation between you and the panel. The conversational rules are altered slightly in this setting and in order to help the negotiation work for you, it is important that you understand the rules and play to win. Your success is probably going to come down to an exchange of about 20 words during the whole interview, which somehow strikes a chord with the members of the interview panel. One of your major challenges is that you do not know which of your 20 words they will be!

Be aware that this is all a game and investing the time needed to better follow the rules is going to be well spent.
There are specific skills and strategies that you should be prepared to exploit in your bid to successfully secure your post.
You can learn more about them for free in this Video on Medical interview Skills. But for a start, ensure that your CV helpfully summarises your training in a manner that highlights your experience and achievements.

Explore how you can sell your team playing, leadership, communication and stress handling skills – amongst other generic skills. There are also managerial skills that you will already have displayed in some form during your training so far – work out how you are going to discuss these factors.

Essentially there are two goals that you have to achieve in order to succeed in your interview:

1. You have to sell your skills to meet the needs of the organisation
2. You must gain rapport with the interview panel

If you work on these two goals, your candidacy will inevitably be enhanced.

Incontinence is defined as when a release of urine occurs that cannot be controlled or stopped. It is related to faecal incontinence, a illness that effects defecation, resulting in uncontrollable bowel movements. There are lots of different types of urine incontinence. The most common of these are stress, urge, functional, overflow and bed wetting along with the less known mixed and temporary incontinence.

Urge Incontinence

Urge or reflex incontinence is a release of urine for no apparent reason. It is usually a result of an over active or “spastic” bladder. Although it can also be because of a surrounding infection that irritates the bladder or a defective CNS inhibitory response. Sufferers may find that it happens as a result of hearing the sound of
water or when they touch water. This means a lot of people use incontinence products.

Stress Incontinence

Stress urinary incontinence is a result of stress being put on the pelvic floor muscles. Typical causes of stress incontinence are pregnancy, child birth and the menopause, therefore it often occurs in women. Suprisingly stress incontinence is the most common form of incontinence found in men. This is usually a result of a prostatectomy, which is the removal of part or the entire prostate gland. This surgery is carried out when urine flow through the urethra becomes restricted usually because the prostate has become enlarged or is infected with a cancerous tumour. Male incontinence is fairly easy to treat compared to women. The urethra is supported by the fascia of the pelvic floor and can move down resulting in stress and increased abdominal pressure. Stress incontinence is brought on by laughing, sneezing or coughing and similar actions. In most cases a trickle of urine is released which makes incontinence products a good solution.

Overflow Incontinence

Some people find that after they have urinated their bladder continues to dribble out urine. It is usually caused by a blockage in the urethra or failure to completely empty the bladder. The blockages can occur from kidney stones or a decrease in neuralogical[/spin messages as a illnesses like diabetes.

Bedwetting

A well known for of incontinence is bedwetting. It is an infliction that usually affects children and is considered to be normal. It is a form of episodic urinary incontinence that occurs whilst sleeping. Bedwetting is also known as enuresis and usually goes with time.

Functional Incontinence

Functional incontinence is when someone is in a poor mental or physical state and struggle to make it to the bathroom. This is often a issue for people suffering from dementia or people with depression, poor eyesight and bad mobility. Nursing homes are often prepared for these situations with incontinence products and nitrile gloves and know all about these sort of age issues.
